About this site
An independent guide to asbestos in Ireland.
Most asbestos sites in Ireland are run by removal contractors. asbestos.ie isn't one. Here is what we are, who funds it, what we will and won't do, and where the editorial line sits.
What this is
asbestos.ie is a content hub on a single subject: asbestos in Irish buildings. It covers what asbestos looks like, what it costs to identify and remove, the regulations that apply (substantially updated in December 2025), the grants that can offset cost, and how to find a contractor qualified to do the work legally.
The site is written for people in stressful situations — homeowners who have just discovered something suspect, buyers facing a survey, renovators whose project has stalled, landlords with a duty to manage. The aim is to give the full picture before you have to commit to a quote.
Who runs it
asbestos.ie is published by S5 Ltd, a small UK company that operates a portfolio of Ireland-focused information sites. It is not a removal contractor, a surveyor, a law firm, or an industry body. It does not deliver asbestos services.
When the site connects you with a contractor, that's a referral relationship: we forward your enquiry to a permit-holding firm, and the firm pays us a small fee on jobs that proceed. You pay nothing for the matching service and we share your details with one contractor at a time, not with a list of firms competing.
Editorial principles
- Independent of any one contractor. No exclusive relationships, no sponsored content, no paid placement. Contractors who want to receive enquiries from us must hold valid HSA permits and the relevant insurance.
- Sourced and dated. Regulatory claims reference the underlying legislation (S.I. No. 632/2025), HSA guidance, EPA waste rules, and Citizens Information. Where we don't have a verifiable Irish source for a number — most pricing falls into this category — we say so rather than make one up.
- Plain English. The regulations are technical; the site is not. If something here is unclear, that's a fault to fix, not a feature.
- No pop-ups, no chat widgets, no newsletter wall. The information should be readable; the path to a contractor should be obvious; nothing else.
- Updated for the new regulations. Every page that touches on regulation has been updated for S.I. No. 632/2025 (December 2025). Where the previous "manage in place" default has been inverted, we say so.
What we won't do
- We won't tell you whether a material is asbestos. That requires laboratory analysis of a sample taken by a competent surveyor — full stop. We can describe what makes a material suspect, point you to the right kind of survey, and connect you with a qualified surveyor.
- We won't quote on removal or survey work. We refer to contractors who do.
- We won't sell your contact details to anyone, run marketing emails to you, or share your enquiry with multiple firms simultaneously.
- We won't host advertising on the site. The contractor referral fee is the sole revenue model.
Disclaimer
This site is an information resource. It is not a substitute for a competent asbestos survey or formal HSA guidance. Always engage a qualified surveyor and a permit-holding removal contractor before disturbing any suspected asbestos material. The information here is provided in good faith and is reviewed periodically, but regulations and practice change — particularly around the 2025 amendments — and the canonical sources (HSA, EPA, Irish Statute Book) take precedence over anything on this site.
